I’m a bit of a reading junkie at the moment… the colder weather is keeping me curled up in bed reading, instead of running around town exploring. The list of books I want to read is long, too long… but here are a few of my must-reads this winter:
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
I loved Gone Girl… so it was a given that I would have to read and love this book too.
“Libby Day was just seven years old when her evidence put her fifteen-year-old brother behind bars.Since then, she had been drifting. But when she is contacted by a group who are convinced of Ben’s innocence, Libby starts to ask questions she never dared to before. Was the voice she heard her brother’s? Ben was a misfit in their small town, but was he capable of murder?”
Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham
I am obsessed with the HBO show, Girls, so naturally this made the list.
“These are stories about getting your butt touched by your boss, about friendship and dieting (kind of) and having two existential crises before the age of 20.Fearless, smart, and as heartbreakingly honest as ever, Not That Kind of Girl establishes Lena Dunham as more than a hugely talented director, actress and producer-it announces her as a fresh and vibrant new literary voice.”
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
I have see this on a number of “must read” lists, so it made it on mine.
“It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will be busier still… By her brother’s graveside, Liesel’s life is changed when she picks up a single object, partially hidden in the snow. It is The Gravedigger’s Handbook, left behind there by accident, and it is her first act of book thievery.”
“Apollo 13 meets Cast Away in this grippingly detailed, brilliantly ingenious man-vs-nature survival thriller, set on the surface of Mars… Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first men to walk on the surface of Mars. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first man to die there.”
What have you been reading? I’m always looking for new recos!
