I had just finished my last audio book and had a long car drive coming up. I had 10 minutes to find a new audio book to download or I was doomed with a 45 minute car ride of horrible radio stations.
I began flipping through itunes as fast as possible to best sellers in non-fiction, praying a name would pop up that I had heard good things about… Wild by Cheryl Strayed…. hmmmmm. All I knew was that Oprah loved it and Reese Witherspoon was staring in the film… fingers crossed it’s an amazing book! BUY!
Knowing very little about this book when I started, I was a bit shocked. I had assumed the woman hiking would have been at least 35 or 40, fighting some kind of midlife crisis. But instead, she was just 26 years old. 26! I am almost 26 and I’m scared of the dark. You couldn’t pay me enough to go hiking alone for months!
The book was predictable (I mean, how crazy can a book about a girl hiking the PCT get?) but it was very enjoyable. I kept thinking about what I would do in her situation. Would I turn back or keep hiking?
I would recommend this book for a long car ride, or at a time in your life when you are hoping to do some self-reflecting. It gets you thinking, and isn’t that the purpose of a really good book?
On a side note, I love Reese Witherspoon! Here is the trailer for the movie:
