We easily fall into patterns that we don’t even realize are happening. Habits can be formed in a matter of weeks, but sometimes they aren’t always good for you.
Over the last few weeks I’ve tried to be more aware of the mindless things I do out of habit, and ensure it has a purpose and is a positive impact on my life.
What I found was part positive and part negative. Hey, the first step to fixing something is being aware of it!
Here are two good habits I want to keep and two bad habits I want to lose (asap!).
Drinking water – S’well bottles have changed my life. I have one by my bed and one at the office so I never have the excuse of not having water close by to drink. I got the extra large size (highly encouraged) in this color and this color. If you struggle to drink enough water a day, huge water bottles are a great help!
Walking everywhere – I’m lucky enough to live within walking distance of my office and Equinox. I’m lucky enough to live walking distance from two Publix grocery stores and a Walgreens. And I’m lucky enough to have dozens of restaurants and bars, you guessed it, within walking distance! Brickell is an amazing place to live. And let me tell you, this walking thing is contagious. My car rarely leaves the parking garage and I’m totally fine with that.
Late night screen time – In my mind I think that ending my evening scrolling Instagram or cleaning up my email inbox is a productive thing, but I know holding my phone to my face as I’m trying to relax and fall asleep is causing the opposite to happen. I have the latest book I’m reading (I have no idea who did what, so I’m currently obsessed! Book review coming soon) placed by my bed now and have moved my phone charge a bit further away to see if that helps me cut the screen time and relax in more healthy ways.
Snacking – One amazing thing about the company I work for are the daily catered meals and unlimited snacks. One hard thing about the company I work for are the unlimited snacks :) We can request any type of snack we want and it will arrive within 2 days. So you can only imagine all of the the tempting Milano cookies, Gushers, chips, and so on that sit there begging me to eat them all day. I’m going to try a new rule that I can only indulge in one snack per day (because setting the goal at zero would be impossible) and maybe even tell the people who sit around me to hold me to it.
What are some of your good and bad habits? Any appear without you knowing, like me?
I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! I spent it running around Sarasota with my family. I won’t lie, I went to bed at 8:30pm last night because I was so exhausted. A four day week has never been more needed :)
