Although I’m used to quite the scorching summer (Florida is no joke!), I am excited to spend summertime in DC this year. It is still going to get very hot here, but my wardrobe will have to be a bit different than the one I needed for Florida summers. Florida summers basically just call for a swimsuit and a cover-up, but here in the city, I’ll need to mix things up and bring some fresh new looks into my summer style.
When it comes to scoping out potential new outfits, it always helps to draw inspiration from people whose style you admire. In some cases, this can mean celebrities, and in other cases, it can be fashion bloggers! After scouring the web for some of the trending summer clothes to keep in mind, I thought I’d share them with you all in case you’re in need of a summer wardrobe overhaul, too! Here are some of the top styles I found for summer 2016.
I’m sure most of you have noticed (and might already own) clothes that show off your shoulders. I can’t get over this trend! It’s flirty and shows just enough skin without feeling like you’re exposed. This trend has a lot of variations, like shoulder cut-outs or halter combos (seen in this article), making it easy to wear it all summer long without seeming repetitive.
I never thought kitten heels would be in style again, but after seeing a lot of the pretty and chic styles here, I realized that kitten heels can be cool! This trend is especially great for taller ladies who want to wear heels but don’t want to tower over everyone else. They’re also a lot more wearable than stilettos.
Summertime always reminds me of a boho-chic vibe, which is why I was happy to see in this post that patchwork patterns are in style for the year. They’re not too fussy, and on a flowy dress, they’re the ultimate summer staple providing plenty of breeze. Oh, and they’re fun!
Another pattern totally perfect for summer is tie-dye. Sticking with the bohemian style, tie-dye just makes me want to relax in a hammock forever. Of course, there are more high-fashion versions of the print (like these), but I’m sure there will be lots of casual looks in the stores too.
Which one of these summer 2016 trends would you bring into your wardrobe? Do you already own some?
