Over 365 days… I can’t believe I’ve lived in Miami for over one year now!
I feel like it was just yesterday I was calling my parents from DC, slightly hesitant… ok VERY hesitant, to inform them I was packing my bags and following the boyfriend to Miami.
My parents: “Really? Miami?? Are you sure?”
Me: “Yes, Miami.” (cue panic)
I won’t lie, never would I have thought I’d live in Miami. Even when I write it on a return address labels I do a double take.
I’m from the west coast of Florida (#srq), so I used to view Miami as just the place to go for a long weekend to party on the beach, not a place that I’d ever live.
But to my pleasant surprise (and my parents), Miami is much more than “Miami”, Mr 305, Miami Beach, and LIV.
There are beautiful areas of Miami (I’m looking at your Coral Gables) and quiet family neighborhoods. There are tennis courts, bike paths, and relaxing beaches.
And of course if you want to have a fun night out, there’s that as well ;)
Although I still don’t completely view Miami as home, I’m happy to call Florida home again. My parents are just a 3.5 hour drive away, I landed a pretty sweet gig with a start up after a month of fun-employment, and I don’t have to battle snow anymore.
Will I stay in Miami for the rest of my life? Probably not. But for now I do have to say I’m pretty lucky. My office is a 4 block walk, my Equinox is a 3 block walk, my Walgreens is a 2 block walk, and my Publix is a 1 block walk. Not to mention the cafe in the base of my apartment building sells wine for those horrible days I come home from work and find my wine fridge empty. What more could a girl ask for?
I do want time to slow down a bit. I can’t believe it’s almost August. I just got back from my unforgettable hiking adventure with my father and head to Europe next month with the boyfriend and his family to run around Mallorca (please send recommendations)!
I would love to hit the pause button for a day (or four) to get a good nights sleep, finish reading Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica, and finish the Netflix show Ozark (this is a must watch if you liked Breaking Bad). But unfortunately a pause button hasn’t been created, so instead I’m running out my front door at 6:30am to head to the gym before work.
The early bird gets the worm, right?
What have you been up to lately? Have you hit any milestones recently?
