When I moved to the DC area from Florida, I had a few concerns:
1) How will I survive the winter?
2) How will I learn how to drive/ parallel park with crazy drivers honking every 3 seconds?
3) What on earth do people do for fun?
As the weather began to get a bit cooler, I asked around for fun fall activities a newbie shouldn’t miss out on. Over and over again I was told, “go on a hike”, so I did just that!
After a bit of research, I stumbled upon a funnily-named trail in Maryland called the Billy Goat Trail. The Washington Post describes the trail as, “a strenuous 4.2-mile hike offering spectacular views of Great Falls.” Honestly it’s not that “strenuous” for a semi-experienced hiker, but there are truly spectacular views! I have hiked the trail 3 times now and would go back again in a heartbeat.
The first time I hiked it with a group of nine girls. It was more of a social outing, filled with loads of gossiping and boy-talk so we took it nice and slow. The last two times I went with my boyfriend and it was for the cardio workout (and the beautiful views). There were a few trips, mainly by me, but by the end of it we were nice and sweaty!
If you haven’t tired the Billy Goat Trail yet, I highly recommend it! There are three different trails you can take, with trail A being the hardest. Try them out and let me know what you think, but make sure to get there early in the morning before it gets too busy. Plus, with the leaves changing colors, it’s the perfect time to go!
Happy hiking :)
