You’re 25! You’re officially an adult. It’s time for a quarter-life crisis (just kidding)!
It’s time to act like an adult (don’t worry, not all the time, just some of the time)! You’re no longer in college and you’re no longer living at home. You have a real job, you pay your own bills, and you can no longer get away with eating ramen for breakfast. I know… it’s rough.
So, are you ready to come over to the dark side of adulthood? Here are five things you should have in your apartment by age 25!
Your father is no longer around to fix everything for you… it’s all up to you. So whip out that hammer and get to work! A level, tape measure, and electrical tape are key components to a toolbox. And if you want to get really fancy, a power drill!
2) Nice bottle of wine
Nowadays, friends are getting engaged, you are getting promotions (hopefully), and your family is dropping by unannounced for weekend visits. It’s no longer acceptable to whip out a 2 buck chuck from TJ’s to celebrate. Always have a nice bottle of wine on hand! (The glass of wine will also be helpful if it is an unannounced family member or if it wasn’t you who got the promotion… and if it’s the latter, pour yourself two glasses of that nice stuff!)
3) Alarm clock
You can’t rely on your phone for everything, have a REAL alarm clock. One you can set just incase you lose your phone or it dies. One that you can see across the room to check the time instead of having to look at your phone every time and get distracted by Instagram. Maybe even one that plays the radio so you can listen to the news or traffic report in the morning? Just an idea.
See intro… you can no longer live off of ramen and frozen Lean Cuisines. You’re a grown adult (with a slowing metabolism) who should be planning her meals out for the week and incorporate all parts of the food pyramid! There are crockpot recipes that only require three ingredients and yield delicious meals for days and days. You’ll impress your roommate, your boyfriend, and even yourself!
5) Living plant
You’re starting to transition in life from just taking care of yourself, to one day taking care of a S.O. and then…. CHILDREN! To prepare yourself, start with a small plant. Taking care of a plant and being able to keep it alive for more than a day shows you’re a responsible adult (to a certain extent). Plus, plants are great for your apartment air :) If you don’t have a green thumb, try a succulent. You basically can’t kill those things, no matter how hard you try.
How many of these five items do you have in your apartment right now? What items are missing from this list that you feel prove your “adultness”?
