My. Mind. Is. Blown.
I would never have picked this book up in a million years (sci-fi isn’t my go-to genre… it’s actually not a genre I ever go-to). But when a friend from my old book club in DC strongly recommend it to me, I knew I had to give it a try.
Have you read The Martian by Andy Weir? Dark Matter is very similar. It has the inner-dialogue writing style (which I loved and laughed over in The Martian), a likable main male character, and a mind bending plot that makes you think way beyond usual novels. If you liked The Martian then pick up Dark Matter. No questions asked.
For those of you who haven’t heard of this book before, here is the GoodReads summary to entice you (it’s a very hard book to summarize without giving away spoilers):
Are you happy with your life?” Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious. Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits. Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”
In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable–something impossible.
I finished this book in a matter of days because I had to know what happened to Jason and the family he once had in the word he remembers.
Even if you don’t geek out over sci-fi stuff (I never thought I would until reading this book), you will still love it! The story line and relationships are very well developed. Honestly when it comes down to, it’s really just a love story :)
Are you convince to pick it up Dark Matter now?
