Did you know that Karin Slaughter is the NYT and #1 internationally bestselling author of 17 thrillers?!
I’m about to make a big statement… I am 99.9% sure that Karin Slaughter is my favorite thriller author.
The Good Daughter is no joke! This is no light, beach read thriller. This is a true, non-stop investigation thriller that will have you wanting to stay up all night reading. It’s not a scary thriller where you hear a noise and get nervous someone broke into your home (which is good because I am quite a scaredy-cat!), but it’s a thriller that has you running alongside the two main characters, Charlie and Sam, as they weave in and out of danger.
Warning: Some scenes are very graphic and I could only read every other word to quickly get through it, but she had me guessing “who did what?” until the very end. Her plot development, strong female characters, and insane twists and turns makes this book a 5 out of 5!
You already know I raved about her other thriller, Pretty Girls, but this one may have been even better.
If you have a sister, this book will pull at your heartstrings when you think about the love/hate relationship between you two growing up, and even as adults. I did wonder though, if I were put in the situation they were, would I run? Would I stay? Could I get over it? Could I let a guilty person walk? This book get’s you thinking about your own moral character, right and wrong, and the power of forgiveness and acceptance.
Until I sat down to write this review did I think about the importance of the title of this book. The question is, who was the “good daughter”? Was it the one who ran, or the one who stayed?
Give this book a read the next time you’re looking for a heart-quickening, addictive thriller. But if your one who can’t handle graphic scenes, maybe read one of these three lighter thrillers instead, because Karin Slaughter does not play around.
Have you read any of Karin Slaughter’s thrillers? What are your thoughts?
