After writing about 5 productive things to do with just a computer, I felt it was required to make a list of 5 things to do with just a phone as well :) Let part II commence…
You know those 10 minutes you have when you’re waiting at the doctor’s office, waiting for the metro to arrive, or waiting on your friend who is late to your coffee date (keyword “waiting”)? It’s easy to spend that time scrolling through Instagram or twitter, but why not try and do something productive instead?
Here are 5 things you can do to have the time fly without wasting that time.
1) Clear out pointless photos
Remember that time you took a screen shot of a chat thread with someone to send to someone else (hey, we’ve all done it), or that time you took a picture of a barcode at Ikea to remember the model name once you made it to the actual pickup area? If you’re no longer chatting about that girl’s text or standing in Ikea, chances are you don’t need those pictures anymore. Get rid of any incriminating evidence :) Don’t forget the “deleted photos” folder either!
2) Text/call a family member
When was the last time you texted your mom or dad a little hello? What about your sister? If you’re in a place where you can chat, give them a quick call and just see how they are doing. A short and sweet “hi there” will make their day, and yours.
3) Delete old apps
Remember that Dots game you were obsessed with last month, but haven’t touched in weeks? Delete it! What about that app that let’s you know where the cheapest gas is, but you never use. Delete it! Get back some of that precious memory you’re always in need of when a new iOS update is ready to be installed. BTW, there are new emojis that you must download immediately (think unicorns, tacos, and jazz hands)! You need that memory for unicorns!
4) Look for any apps that need to be updated
What about those apps that you love? Snap Chat, Instagram, Seamless… the list goes on and on. Open up your app store and make sure they’re all up to date so that you can snap using the new filters that turn your mouth into a rainbow :)
5) Clear out old notes
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve made a grocery list on my phone or written down a few words to remind myself to do something. Now I look back at my note from 5/13/14 and think, what the heck does the note “eggs, 499, letter, pool tags and floor 6” have in common on one list?? Go through and clear those things out! If you don’t know what the note was for (or it was from over a year ago) chances are you won’t miss it.
Don’t kill time mindlessly scrolling through social media! These 5 tasks will have you feeling productive as you wait. Plus, if you’re doing something productive, that means you get to eat a donut. That makes sense, right?
P.S. I got this tasty donut from Astro Donuts and Fried Chicken in DC as I waited for my boyfriend to arrive. The chocolate “a” was for Astro, not Amanda… but I will pretend it was made specially made for me :)
How do you stay productive when you have time to kill with just your phone?
